Early breaking news - Alsace   26th October   : Hungarian 23th November.

T he first, of course was Alison's 40th a truly superb evening – Nigel Hollick the proprietor of Bruerne’s Lock Restaurant and Nick the chef and his team excelled themselves. Glenn had only picked Alison up from Portsmouth, after her tremendous week at OU summer school in Caen, at 11.00pm the evening before. Alison had made several advance trips to discuss and finalise the menu and seating plan before departing for France. Her birthday was on a Saturday, so we were able to enjoy a wonderful evening ‘with 12 of our friends on the day itself. We raided our cellar for top wines including the stunning bottle of her birth year ’59 Château Lascombes, a Deuxième Cru, that Alison had been given last year by René, during our wonderful Bordeaux holiday. We had one of the best evenings of our life- perhaps our Wedding was very slightly more fun. The many links were, Neil & Monique from Glenn’s past, Mike and June from the Grafton Hunt, Mike and Sue Knapp from the shooting world, Alison’s French friends, Marie- Hélène and Jon, Annie and Alan, a very longstanding friend Cathy, and Nigel’s wife Harriet. Nigel was a guest of course, but he had to run the restaurant as well!
